After an email exchange with a friend this evening, I was curious about the high school dropout rate (it's 50% in the Albany schools). So I went to http://www.all4ed.org/publication_material/understanding_HSgradrates, and clicked on "National".
In the article, by the Alliance for Excellent Education, in the paragraph bemoaning the depressed future of high school dropouts, I found this sentence:
The costs of dropping out are born not just by individuals, but by the communities in which they live, and the rest of society.Born? I cried.
Nobody teaches about homonyms and homophones any more.
