5030 Not difficult to understand

Thursday, November 5, 2015

Looking at the field of presidential candidates, I wonder why they are in general so ... bad.  Many of them are just plain weird in their opinions and proposals.  Very few of them come across as thinkers.

Then I realized it's completely understandable why no intelligent, aware, educated, accomplished, thinking person who wants to better the lives of the people would want to run for the office.  I mean, who in their right mind would volunteer to deal with what Congress has become?

That leaves the field open for people who just want the power and glory of the title, or who want to push their own narrow agendas and prejudices.

Out of the whole field, there are maybe two whom I could vote for without holding my nose, and even then it would be without hope.

If you disagree, tell me who you think is a decent candidate, and why.  Maybe you could sway me. (No, I won't tell you who my two might be.)

The Republican field is utter chaos. There is not one among them for whom I could vote, even if I held my nose. I like Bernie and Hillary well enough. Are they perfect? No. But I long ago ceased to believe that I needed to vote for the "best" person. As you say, "best" people do not run for government anymore---two prime examples are Al Gore and Colin Powell. Each of those capable gentlemen retired from politics because, I am sure, they felt they could make more of a difference in the world outside of that insanity. Also, look at Elizabeth Warren. She has so many of the right ideas, but I think she (rightly) understands that the presidency is not the job from which you are able to make any effective change. These days, my vote goes for the "side" that I believe best aligns with my personal beliefs, and also is more likely to eventually bring about the changes I believe are needed to get this country back on the right track. And, these days, that is NEVER the GOP...
