[Later edit - Step 2 got folded into the URL. Fixed it. Link and directions will work now.]
1. Go to www.google.com
2. click on "maps" (above the search box)
3. click on "get directions" (under the search box)
4. type "New York" in the first box (the "from" box at the top)
5. type "London" in the second box (the "to" box at the top) and click "get directions"
6. scroll down to step #23
Google has a sense of humor.

Was the exclusion of a step #2. on your list deliberate? It's no big deal if it's a typo, I'm just always a little paranoid that there's a joke I'm not getting.
